Sticky, Melbourne & Shelbyville

I’m in Melbourne at the moment for this amazingly naff named writers/zine fair Page Parlour. The adventures with Michelle from Shelbyville have been fantastic.  We had breakfast this morning with another person called Nick with great conversation and tasty porridge and then the two of us headed to some shops in North Melbourne.  Outstanding.

You must realise I’m tired because I’m throwing out these extreme adjectives.  Anyway, we visited this place called Threadden where you can go for a wide range of sewing lessons (all levels); there’s also a boutique shop of handmade goods and the opportunity to simply hire out a sewing machine for a few hours.  Down the road was Arthur’s Circus, which Michelle went wild in.  The lady in the shop, Fiona was great for a chat & had a shop cat and shop dog.  Ahh!  The life.  We went to plenty more places over the day but we eventually went to Sticky Institute (ZINE SHOP!!!) in Degraves Subway.  I’ve spent time there on every day I’ve been here.  My first day in Melbourne I think I spent 6 hours in the shop!

I wanted to post on here and remind you to keep sending your stuff to Sticky.  It may seem obvious, and I’m sure you have sent stuff there in the past but hey!  This is a reminder!  Go grab the form off http://stickyinstitute.com/ (hint: it’s under the Stock Your Work on the left) and then post off 10 copies of each zine.

If you want to make me super happy, go sign up and become a member of Sticky.  You’ll be helping them help you.  Just like each February they have the Festival of the Photocopier, you could be helping them make the festival bigger and greater – I’ve heard some of the plans for 2010 and they’re SUPER EXCITING.  By becoming a member, you even get this cool dog tag & half-price photocopying on the

Arthur’s Circus is my dream store, full of delicious nostalgic things like vintage games and toys, handmade goodies, posters and photography, old lights and a whole variety of collectables. The store itself is just gorgeous, and the owner, Natalie, is just lovely. Well worth a visit if you’re in the area, or online if you’re not… http://www.arthurscircus.com/
